Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep is the prequel of the first Kingdom Hearts game series, which takes place 10 years prior to the first series.

The three keyblade weilders and close friends, Terra, Aqua, and Ventus, are apprentices of the Keyblade Master Eraqus. Xehanort, another Keyblade weilder, and his apprentice, Vanitas, are the antagonists of the story.

Characters of the first game series, Sora and Riku, also appear in this game prequel as kids. Popular Disney Characters such as Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Peter Pan, Mickey Mouse, Goofy, Hercules, Hewey, Dewey, and Louie also appear in this game. Zack Fair, a character from Crisis Core, Final Fantasy VII also appear in this game.
